My Favourite Essex Baby Boutique for Stylish Clothing | Sans Souci Kids

Baby boutique Sans Souci Kids Physical Store

If you know me personally, you know how crazy I am about supporting local businesses and today I will tell you all about my favourite baby boutique in Essex - Sans Souci Kids. I believe in the power of human connection that comes through engaging with small businesses, in developing the local economy and supporting our communities. This is why I decided to start a series on my blog where I will be talking all things local with a particular focus on championing small businesses.

As a family photographer in Essex, I am always on the lookout for aesthetic children's clothes for photoshoots. So it was fitting to kick off this series by telling you all about Sans Souci Kids.

TABLE OF CONTENTS:

THE MOST STYLISH ESSEX BABY BOUTIQUE

We moved to Essex in 2021, shortly after I fell pregnant with my son. The area was completely new to us - we knew nothing and no one here, but we immediately fell in love with how green it is, how welcoming the people are and how calm it was - it felt like the perfect place to start a family.

Little by little, I started researching local spots, small businesses and places and found out that Essex has an extremely high number of them. In fact, I can say that my favourite thing about the area is how proud of Essex people living in here are (as I am myself now too!) and how much they support their independent shops, eateries and producers. I soon discovered local artisanal markets, stores, restaurants, boutiques and made it a point to always shop small & chose local.

I’m a person who really values human connection and I believe that those micro-relationships we form with people like the postman, the woman we buy our veggies from, the barista that makes our coffee in the morning are a big part to long-term happiness (there’s actually scientific evidence of this). Sometimes a simple short interaction can start your day on a completely different note than how it was going previously and I truly think in this lies the importance of shopping locally. On top of this, you are supporting the livelihood of people who have invested a lot to create this businesses. All in all, supporting independent businesses is simply amazing and the benefits are for everyone involved!

With this explanation as to why I’m starting this series, let me introduce you to the first local business I want to tell you all about… my favourite Baby Boutique in Essex - Sans Souci Kids.

I first discovered Sans Souci Kids at the Artisan Ingatestone Market shortly before Christmas 2022. I immediately fell in love with the cute, wonderfully minimalistic and carefully curated pieces of clothing that were on display. I purchased some outfits for my son and every time he was wearing one of them, compliments were sure to follow!

I recently visited Sans Souci’s store at Barleylands Farm & Craft Village and unsurprisingly, it’s as cosy as it gets with its understated cool scandi vibe and owner Anthea’s welcoming smile. I told her about my idea to start a series on local Essex businesses (of course after browsing her store and buying the cutest shirt for my boy) and asked her if she would like to answer some questions for my readers. Thankfully, she agreed!

So without further ado, here’s a little glimpse into local Essex baby boutique Sans Souci:

INTERVIEW WITH SANS SOUCI KIDS FOUNDER ANTHEA

Every great business starts with an idea. How was your vision of Sans Souci Kids Boutique born?

"Ah, the birth of Sans Souci Kids Boutique was like a spark of creativity combined with a sprinkle of magic! It all started with a vision to bring fashion and flair to the little ones, curating  a haven of style and joy for kids and parents alike."

Did you have any difficulties along the way of making your dream into a reality?

"Oh, the journey from dream to reality was no walk in the park! There is so much stress of owning your own business. There is a bewildering array of things to worry about. Time commitment is one. In theory I have the freedom to take time off but in reality I find it hard to switch off and a 40 hour work week is a myth! There were challenges and hurdles along the way, but each one was just a stepping stone towards making our dreams come true. It’s all part of the adventure, isn’t it?"

If you could go back, would you do something differently?

"If I could turn back time, I might have taken a few more risks or tried some bolder moves. But hey, every decision led me to where I are now, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything."

What’s your favourite piece of clothing from Sans Souci’s current collection and why?

"Choosing a favourite piece from our collection is like picking a favourite child – impossible! But if I had to choose, I’d say our Mama Bird and Baby Bird tees and of course our I love my mummy jumpsuits. They’re our bestseller, so steals my heart every time. It’s just pure magic seeing little ones in them."

What’s the best part of running Sans Souci Kids, the thing that keeps you motivated even through difficult moments?

"The best part of running Sans Souci Kids is definitely my customers. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love. Interacting with my customers, seeing their joy and satisfaction, and knowing that I am making a positive impact in their lives is what keeps me motivated to keep going. Their support, feedback, and loyalty is the fuel that keeps me going, even on the toughest days."

As a mum of two, what does the perfect family weekend in Essex look like for you?

"A perfect family weekend in Essex? Picture this – a leisurely stroll in the countryside, a cozy family picnic, ride along the river, either rowing or on a boat. Enjoying the scenic views, the tranquil waters, and the fresh air as you bond with your family in nature. Maybe some ice cream by the sea, lots of laughter and quality time together. Pure bliss!"

And finally - what’s your favourite local Essex business and why?

"Ah, my favourite local Essex business? That’s a tough one, but I have to give a shoutout to The Gingertree Ingatestone, @newdayoriginals , @oliviaandgray, @the.hungry.tribe, @bear_and_buddy_ ,  @macyhudsonhome & @marvindesigns . Their passion, amazing products/services make them a gem in our community. Plus, they’re just lovely people!"
