Today's Random Fact Friday is taking it back to the basics for me as a person. I will give you a hint, it's very directly related to this photo... That's right, family! My biggest priority in life, my inspiration, my everything is my family. So much so that when I first read "The Godfather", the book and what it ultimately stands for resonated so deeply with my core values (well, except for all the killing and dodgy business of course), that it quickly became my all time favourite piece of literature.
Quite similarly to Mario Puzo's famous novel, I have a big extended family and we are all very close. In fact, sometimes people are surprised at how close we are and how much we prioritise spending time with each other. For example, my parents and my grandmother visit us quite often and it's a running joke amongst my husband's colleagues that "The relatives are visiting AGAIN" (picture this being said with a sarcastic eye roll). What usually sounds scary to people and is even the plot of many comedy movies - your in-laws staying over - to us is the biggest blessing. In fact, when we were buying our house we specifically did viewings only for houses which have enough bedrooms to sleep our whole immediate family! We love the hustle and bustle of a full house - the sounds of our son having fun with his grandparents, people chatting away, delicious meals being cooked in the kitchen and big family dinners.
Ever since I was little, I have always observed my relatives helping each other, spending every big holiday together and being there for each other during tough times. There was always somebody's house that you are invited to, somebody that needs help moving their old refrigerator or fixing their car, somebody that's organising a big family celebration. Family has always been at the centre of our lives and I am beyond happy that both me and my husband share this value, and hopefully, leading by example, we will manage to instil it in our son.
