Why I Love Being a Essex Photographer: A Year in Review

As I sit down to reflect on 2024, my heart feels full. Being an Essex photographer has been nothing short of a dream come true. When you combine incredible people, stunning locations, and moments that matter, you get a dream job—and that’s what being an Essex photographer is to me.

This year has been one for the books. Since starting my photography journey in 2013, I’ve experienced so much growth, met countless amazing families, and witnessed countless memories unfold through my lens. But 2024 was special in a way that’s hard to put into words. It was a year filled with milestones, cherished connections, and exciting challenges that pushed me creatively and personally.

From cozy lifestyle newborn sessions in my new cozy natural light studio to breathtaking golden hour family sessions across the beautiful Essex countryside, this year gave me endless opportunities to capture the love and joy that makes life so beautiful. I’ve loved photographing growing families, milestone celebrations, and everything in between. Each session reminding me why I fell in love with this craft over a decade ago.

TABLE OF CONTENTS:

Reflecting on a Year of Photography

One of the highlights of this year was becoming a member of The Club Hub, the UK’s largest Kid Activities directory. They recently launched their antenatal panel with classes and activities, and I was honored to be invited as one of the top maternity photographers in Essex. Collaborating with them to provide photography services and capture expectant mums is such an exciting opportunity, and I can’t wait to see where this partnership takes me in the coming years.

Another major milestone for 2024 was officially opening my cozy natural light studio. It’s been a year in the making, with renovation work, painting, and selecting just the right props and equipment to create a warm and inviting space. I’ve recently completed my first few studio photoshoots there, and the feedback from clients has been incredible. Hearing them describe it as a calming, homely, and cozy space fills me with so much joy. I’m thrilled to announce that 2025 will bring even more exciting developments in the studio, including introducing a type of photoshoot that is completely new for the Essex market. I’m hopeful my clients will love it as much as I do!

This year also gave me the opportunity to capture one of my dear friend’s second pregnancy. Last year, I photographed a Mother and Son session with them, creating some of my favorite images to date. Revisiting their story this year was so special—seeing how much her son has grown, how loving he was toward his baby sister even before she arrived, and documenting these beautiful moments was truly heartwarming. These are the kinds of connections and memories that make this job so meaningful.

Why I Love Being An Essex Photographer

I truly love being a photographer in Essex. As someone who didn’t grow up here, there is so much to discover—even four years into living here, it continues to amaze me! My family and I love exploring the area and have found so many stunning country parks, beautiful historical buildings, cozy cafes, and charming restaurants. I often joke that you can’t get me out of Essex now—I truly feel at home here. The openness, vast countryside, and breathtaking fields make the perfect backdrop for outdoor photoshoots. The natural beauty of Essex adds so much character to my photos, and it’s a privilege to work in such an inspiring environment.

One place that has become a staple in my business is Kiddos Play Cafe. As an Essex family photographer, it’s the perfect spot to meet clients with kids for an in-person chat about their photoshoot. The combination of a soft play area and a cafe is genius—the play frame keeps little ones entertained without being overwhelmingly large, so mums can relax with a cuppa and have an actual conversation. There are lovely toys, books, and even the cutest little reading nook. I recently met a client there with my son in tow after his preschool day. He happily entertained himself for two hours while we chatted—I was so impressed! It’s places like this that make working in Essex such a joy.

For now, though, I want to take a moment to celebrate all that 2024 has brought. So many stories, so many laughs, and so many frames filled with love.
